The Magicians: A Novel

The Magicians - Lev Grossman A reasonable idea (if "Harry Potter for grown-ups" can be classed as an idea), but badly constructed. The author seemed to decide about halfway through that this was actually about the responsibility of power, but the shift into out-and-out fantasy (giant rabbits and machete-wielding ferrets and all) completely undermined any serious point he was trying to make. Annoying characters, no character development, ideas introduced and then abandoned... all a bit of a mess really, which was a shame as there was some good writing in there.Disappointing.
